Flea-to-Fab Vintage Table Makeover

20160813_115725

This is an old small side table I found at a thrift shop when on vacation. It has those vintage spindle legs, and a hidden drawer. It deserved a drab-to-fab makeover, and that is exactly what I gave her.

Nesting Canisters Get Nautical Makeover

Do you agree these vintage nesting canisters are a throwback to the 70’s? Picked up for $5, I knew they screamed for a makeover.

Summer-inspired Tray Makeovers

Our monthly local vintage flea market is only a 15-minute drive from home. Vendors line the aisles with wonderful “trash to treasures.” A few months ago, I bought these two lap trays, with the short metal foldout legs. We used trays like this when we were kids when we were sick and got to eat in bed.

Happy Leap Day & 91 Degrees

The weather has a mind of its own. While the east coast is still in the throes of winter, SoCal is already experiencing a record-breaking heatwave. I know I shouldn’t complain. However, when I’m on the tennis court trying to play a match on the hot concrete slab, it’s a bit too warm for my liking.  Plus, we’re in a drought so we need rain!

Looking at the bright side, though, it’s warm enough that I will share my poolside vintage chair makeover today. Continue reading “Happy Leap Day & 91 Degrees”

Create a Beachy Holiday Card Display

20151102_131015

If you’re looking for a fun way to showcase your holiday cards this year, create a holiday display — with a beach-inspired theme! Start with a large picture frame.  Replace the glass with chicken wire. [Click here to see how to attach chicken wire to frame.]

I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint for this project.

Paint the frame with one to two coats of chalky finish paint.  Let dry between coats.

Using a second color, paint the sides of the frame.

Apply a varnish to the frame.  I used Americana Decor Light Satin Finish varnish.

Create a banner using card stock and large alphabet stamps. Cut squares from card stock slightly larger than letters. 20151102_085152

Lightly paint stamps using a foam brush, and then press stamp firmly onto card stock.  I spelled out “Coastal Tidings.”

Paint clothespins.  Create banner and attach to frame.

Hot glue peppermint stick to clothespins, tie with twine and glue to  both ends of the banner.

Add holiday and beach-themed embellishments to top and bottom corners of frame.

As you receive holiday cards in the mail, attach them to the display frame with clothespins.
