This old tray was perfect for serving up my inspiration for its new look. Although the picture is quite pretty, it wasn’t part of my plan.  Continue reading “Repurposed Tray & City Map”

Find Those Potatoes or my Vegetable Bin Makeover

Potatoes enjoy being stored in a dry, dark place. But they are also easily forgotten until you later find them in the back of the pantry growing the latest science experiment.

When I spotted this really old vegetable bin, I quickly grabbed slowly lugged it back to the car. It became my next makeover.

Flea-to-Fab Vintage Table Makeover

20160813_115725

This is an old small side table I found at a thrift shop when on vacation. It has those vintage spindle legs, and a hidden drawer. It deserved a drab-to-fab makeover, and that is exactly what I gave her.

Sew On & Sew Forth

You know I love a good flea-to-fab makeover. What you might not know about me is that I also sew. My Mom taught me when I was six years old. She bought me one of those mini metal singer machines–the perfect size to create doll clothes.

OMG! Blog post update: My Mom just gave me a batch of old photos, and look what I found, a photo of me sewing on the mini sewing machine just as I remember. Even though this is a b&w photo, believe me, it was a beautiful bright red.

It was a grand day when I got promoted to use her vintage Singer treadle machine, that my Mom and Dad brought with them when they moved from London to California. It still runs better than any machine built today!

They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships

20160713_132252

A few weeks ago, while vacationing in Boston, we ferried over to the town of Gloucestor, one of the earliest English settlements. It is now known for the Rocky Neck Art Colony, where many artists call home.

The town was and still is a major seafaring and fishing port. Heard of Gorton’s fish sticks?  Well, Gorton’s of Gloucestor was founded here back in 1849, and the company still catches and processes their seafood here.

Anyway, there is a monument dedicated to the thousands of fishermen who ventured out to sea. The monument reads “They that go down to the sea in ships.” It’s actually from a psalm in the bible.

History lesson over.  Craft time begins.

Tiered Metal Kitchen Cart Makeover

Isn’t this a gem? Maybe not yet, but it does have great potential. Yes, I saw this cart’s future, and it was good. Except for the rust and dirt, the cart was in good shape and has two handles, one on each side–that’s a plus. Let’s see what a little scrubbing, painting and stenciling can do!

Do you agree these vintage nesting canisters are a throwback to the 70’s? Picked up for $5, I knew they screamed for a makeover.

Summer-inspired Tray Makeovers

Our monthly local vintage flea market is only a 15-minute drive from home. Vendors line the aisles with wonderful “trash to treasures.” A few months ago, I bought these two lap trays, with the short metal foldout legs. We used trays like this when we were kids when we were sick and got to eat in bed.
